Fielden Wisdom

I just received an e-mail update from one of my heroes of faith, Fielden Allison. Fielden and Janet have served in Africa for over 35 years, most of that time in very remote places. They're still there serving. Shawn Mayes, Kathy Thompson, Jill Traylor (names at the time), and I lived with them the summer of 1991 on the Kenyan slopes of Mt. Elgon. Our lives were forever changed.

Here is Fielden's wisdom for the day.....

In order to know the problems of people you have to live with them. In order to solve the problems of people you have to live with God.

It amazes me when people have wisdom to be able to say incredible things is such magnificently simple ways!

Thanks for sharing.

How great it is to hear a good word from Field and Stream. Just the mention of his name brings a flood of wonderful memories. I am thankful for the way that God has used he and Janet to reach out to so many.

CD,
I love this corrective to the two extremes of solidarity with people OR solidarity with God. I think that this is one of the things that we must recapture in the church today. We must rediscover a spirituality that draws us into communion with God and allows us to hear God's voice speaking a Word into our word-saturated world. On the other hand, we must also find creative, if not readical, ways be in solidarity with people.
The quote really challenges me and reminds me that spirituality and social justice are not two separate facets of the Christian life, but the two sides of the same coin of God's work of new creation in the world.

hi this is Katy Scott from church. as we were studying the invisible children in uganda in my nonwestern culture class. you came to my mind as a memory of you being a missionary over there. i am thankful for the way God used you over there and maybe one day at church it would be cool to talk to you about that from someone who has been there.
